The Beast out of the Earth

What do you think God is referring to when he says: (Revelation Chapter 13, verse 14)... an image in honor of the beast... I think that hypocrisy, acting, examples: movies, tv shows, commercials, etc. is it is referring to in our lives today. Our those things are big in our world today and in mostly everyone household. Please let me know what you think?

The Book of Revelations is one of the most difficult to follow yet one of the most rewarding of all the books of the Bible.

In Rev 13:14 it mentions miracles” and “image” and I can see where someone might conclude John is referring to the images we see on TV and movie screens. However, some Bible scholars consider the prophecies in Revelations to have been completed. Thus the ones mentioned in chapter 13 would have occurred some time ago.

One of the best books published that explains Revelations is “The People’s New Testament” by B W Johnson: www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/peoples-new-testament/

In his explanation of chapters 12 and 13 he points out that the dragon has called the beast from the sea. The dragon represents the devil and the beast does his bidding. The deception and reason for the miracles can be found in the superstitious population submitting to the whims of the papacy. “Rome has claimed the possession of miraculous power in all ages, and no fact in history is better established than that she has continually resorted to lying miracles.”

The object of these false miracles was to convince the people of the spiritual powers of the papacy, i.e., impress people into believing the Pope has powers he does not have. The people were to make an image of the beast and to offer it homage.

We know this is contrary to God’s commandments not to worship graven images.

We would agree movies and TV shows contain activities Christians are to avoid. Most soap operas do not encourage respect for other people. They are schools for learning insults, sarcasm and illicit sexual activity. Most prime time TV programs show people hopping in and out of bed without regard for decency. And movies are the same with vulgar language thrown in.

While we have to live in this world we don’t have to be part of this world. Thank God there is a kingdom of people who hunger and thirst after righteousness! While we can’t change the world His kingdom is available to those who want to be called out from the world
